Centre for Participatory Management of Natural Resources-CPMNR-a wing of GEER Foundation- aims to promote and strengthen gender sensitive community organisations for enhancing equitable social and economic livelihood opportunities, and eco-friendly and sustainable development of natural resources through interactive processes between government and non-government institutions.

The role:
CPMNR plays a support role in bringing the attitudinal and behaviour change through capacity building, research, communication, documentation, networking and policy interventions for strengthening participatory decision making processes.

The activities :
The Centre organizes activities like training, educational tours, lecturers, workshops and seminars for disseminating of information, views, ideas and experiences for generating awareness and skill building. CPMNR has developed training strategy, micro-plan format, and progress report format for the JFM programme of the State under the guidance of State Level Working Group on JFM. The Centre has evolved three training modules for developing managerial capabilities of JFM village institutions supported by Forest Development Agencies and for the field functionaries of the Forest Department.

The centre has successfully carried out JFM database of 1,417 JFM villages in 11 districts of Gujarat. On the basis of this survey, recently, the Foundation has brought out a report on JFM areas of Gujarat State.

Sahastiva - a newsletter :
A quarterly newsletter ‘Sahastitva’ is regularly published since 1999, by the Centre with view to providing opportunities to the JFM village institutions and Forest Department to interact with each other.

Unique position of CPMNR:
Due to its unique position of interface between NGOs and Government, CPMNR is becoming increasingly effective and acceptable among JFM partners. We at CPMNR strongly believe that educational processes are essential for attitudinal change among the People and Government Departments for effective, efficient and sustainable management of natural resources and to achieve larger goals of decentralization, equity and social justice at societal level.
